FC Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez have officially announced his retirement. The former Barca man who has been playing professional football for 21 years will hang his boot in the summer of 2019.
While in Qatar, he spoke to the media telling a story of a 15 years old boy named Umesh Rathod he met in Mumbai, India who used the football to avoid the complicated life he was faced with at a tender age.
Telling the story, he linked it up to the passion he has for the sport and announced he will stop his professional career as a footballer by the end of the season.
.…within Umesh, I saw joy and happiness that the sport (football) had created. This reminded me of when I was dying to succeed. In the next four weeks, I will play my final game as a professional footballer.
It will be the end as a player on the pitch but not the end of him in the sport. “This will be my last season as a player but I want to see what the future holds for me as a coach.” said the 39 years old.
He added; “I would like to finish my final season on top of the Amir Cup and reach the next level of the Asian Champions League”.
