Based on remarks and comments from the media, Gerard Pique announces Spain national team retirement after 2018 World Cup. The player revealed his intention when he spoke to the media after the Spanish game against Albania that ended 2–0 win for Spain.
“After the 2018 World Cup will follow my retirement, I’ll stop playing for the Spain national team. I’ve made this decision long time ago, it’s not a choice I had to make with this period of controversy. I’ve always given my all on the pitch, although some people are really grateful, while some don’t want me to play,” said the defender.
Among every outrage linked with the Barca man, the latest involves him cutting the sleeves on his jersey just to get the Spanish flag off the white jersey in which he wore against Albania. “I’ve always played in long sleeves, I was bothered because they were a little short. So I had to cut it, this controversy is just funny and unjust.”
For a long time now, Pique have being whistled and booed because he supported the breakaway of Catalunya.
