FC Barcelona once again had the chance to take the lead on the Spanish League table after Real Madrid played a 1-1 draw against Eibar. For the second consecutive season, the Blaugranas have conceded 4 goals and lost against Celta at the Balaidos Stadium.
The host team got three unreplied goals in the first half. Barca on the verge of equalizing, only for an error from Ter Stegen saw the lead extended to two goals. The second and last goal from Pique saw the Catalan club reduce the lead to a goal, but with three minutes left Celta secured their third win in this season’s La Liga campaign.
Another squad rotation from Luis Enrique made Iniesta, Rakitic and Mascherano watch the kickoff from the bench as Andre Gomes, Arda and Mathieu took their place. After the performance from Rafinha, the manager choose the Brazilian to cover up for injured Messi. Of course, there can never be any perfect replacement for Lionel Messi in the current FC Barcelona squad.
Just like in previous games against Leganes and Sporting Gijon, Celta had practiced the same tactics on Barca. They played a highly pressing style of game. Although Leganes and Sporting Gijon were not successful like Celta because the latter were better with their passes.
Right from the kickoff, Barcelona were the dominating side with better ball possession and shots.
The first three goals scored by Pione Sisto, Iago Aspas, and Mathieu (own goal) all happened with 10 minutes.
Just after the second half begun, Iniesta was introduced into the game to replace Rafinha minutes later he setup the first goal for Pique. Six minutes later, Andre Gomes was fouled in the box and there was Neymar who reduced the goal to one.
An error from Ter Stegen saw the opponent increase their lead to two goals. Denis Suarez who was introduced into the game in the 76th minutes created the second and last goal for Pique in the match.
